Education Coalition of Zimbabwe (ECOZI), in partnership with Shamwari Yemwanasikana (SYS), AGAPE, the Ministry of Women Affairs, and other key stakeholders, joined the global community in celebrating the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child at Chigombwe Primary School in Mutare. The event brought together representatives from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MOPSE), District Schools Inspectorate (DSI), local leadership including the village head and councillor, parents, and other community partners in a powerful show of support for girls’ education and empowerment.

This year’s commemoration ran under the theme “The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis.” The theme underscores that girls are not just passive victims of challenging circumstances but are active agents of change leading, innovating, and transforming their communities even in times of crisis.

As part of the celebrations, ECOZI and partners distributed 400 pairs of school shoes and sanitary towels to girls from surrounding schools. This initiative aimed to promote dignity, confidence, and equal access to education, ensuring that no girl is left behind due to lack of basic necessities.
The event served as a reminder of the importance of collective action in advancing gender equality and fostering an enabling environment where every girl can realise her full potential. ECOZI remains committed to championing girl’s rights and education as a key pillar for sustainable development in Zimbabwe.
