The Education Coalition of Zimbabwe (ECOZI) and the Tertiary Education Service Council (TESC) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in promoting quality, inclusive, and equitable tertiary education in Zimbabwe. The signing ceremony took place on 19 September 2025 at Pandhari Hotel, Harare, and was attended by representatives from TESC, the ECOZI Secretariat, and the ECOZI Board.
This partnership signifies a renewed commitment to transforming Zimbabwe’s tertiary education sector through evidence-based advocacy, inclusivity, and innovation. The MoU outlines a framework for joint initiatives that will advance research, curriculum co-creation, policy reform, and student empowerment — all key to building a more equitable and responsive education system.
During the signing, the TESC Director highlighted the transformative vision underpinning the partnership, structured around four strategic pillars:
- Co-Creation of Curriculum – Developing a curriculum that integrates community needs, entrepreneurship, and digital literacy to equip graduates with relevant skills for today’s world.
- Democracy and Inclusion – Ensuring student voices are central to institutional governance and promoting equity within tertiary institutions.
- Evidence-Based Advocacy – Using research to influence smarter education policies and drive greater investment in the sector.
- Nurturing Innovators – Cultivating graduates with critical thinking skills, ethical leadership, and a spirit of innovation.
The Director of ECOZI reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to advancing safe, inclusive, and quality learning environments in teacher training colleges and polytechnic institutions. ECOZI’s recent milestones such as student orientation sessions on health rights, peer educator training, and the launch of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy were cited as key steps in promoting student well-being and institutional accountability.
In his remarks, the Director emphasised that partnerships like this are central to building an education system that is inclusive, empowering, and future-ready. He called for continuous collaboration and dialogue among all stakeholders to ensure lasting impact and sustainable educational excellence.
The MoU establishes clear structures for implementation, including joint committees, timelines, and accountability mechanisms, to guide ongoing collaboration. Together, ECOZI and TESC envision an education system that not only meets the needs of today’s learners but also prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
This partnership goes beyond a formal agreement it represents a collective commitment to empowering students, promoting social justice, and nurturing innovation across Zimbabwe’s tertiary education landscape.
